This antique large locket pendant is Victorian period
Distinctive artwork attributed to Harry Emanuel, tests solid 18 KT gold, bearing Austro Hungarian import marks for the period 1872/1902 – later engraved on the back for remembrance date for being given as family gift
The locket is simply fabulous piece of art of the sentimental, romantic Victorian jewellery, typical of Harry Emanuel works of art usually not marked as very distinctive of his works
Hand made of plain satin gold work centered by two lovingly birds upon the nest with pearl eggs and background of forget me not flowers of stunning Blue White and Red making a subtle colour contrast
Back is dated London 27 September 1901
It has two internal windows with rich Turquoise silk and original glass, all intact and perfect except a few scratches on the reverse side
Locket is 59 x 36 mm. including bail (h. x w.)
A similar example is displayed in the Victorian & Albert Museum
Harry Emanuel was bestowed the title of Gold & Silversmith to the Queen and Prince of Wales in 1862 – known for the practice of incorporating animals, birds in particular, into jewellery- every piece was different made from the other
